11/7/2022 0 Comments Gawker loses millions![]() ![]() Gawker Media president and general counsel Heather Dietrick said in October that she wouldn't be surprised if Gawker lost the case, but didn't think that the jury would award Bollea $100 million, Politico Media reported at the time. That's why we have already begun preparing, as we expect to win this case ultimately." #GAWKER LOSES MILLIONS FULL#am confident that we would have prevailed at trial if we had been allowed to present the full case to the jury. ![]() Gawker, however, has "warned that if Hogan wins the case, the decision could not only destroy the company – a loss could cost the site up to $50 ," the Guardian writes.ĭenton's statement also said, "I. "Turkel walked jurors through Hogan's case: that his right to privacy was gratuitously compromised by Gawker, that his reputation was materially compromised, and that he suffered emotional distress of 'outrageous intensity and duration.' " "Kenneth Turkel, a lawyer for Hogan, told jurors Gawker editors had not even had the 'common decency' to call Hogan for comment before they posted the video. "But in the privacy of your own home, no one invades my privacy." "I'm kind of concerned about Hulk Hogan's privacy, but you kind of give it away," Bollea testified in court, according to The New York Times. Gawker argued that Bollea's "frequent public discussion of his sex life made the clip newsworthy and thus protected by the First Amendment."īollea's lawyers argued that distinguishing between the character of Hulk Hogan and Bollea's real life was crucial. Their thinking is that if the defense could establish that the tape was made as a publicity stunt, then it was fair game to be covered as news.Īs the Two-Way previously reported, the issue of whether the video is newsworthy was a point of focus in much of the case. The witness to which Denton alludes is reportedly the husband of the woman in the sex tape, Bubba Clem, who Gawker lawyers wanted to question in order to show that that one or both of the parties knew about the taping. That ‘s why me and my boyfriend don ‘t even kiss, we just spend a lot of time reading about Gawker ‘s trial and sometimes if we ‘re feeling lucky hold hands. In a statement, Gawker founder Nick Denton said, "Given key evidence and the most important witness were both improperly withheld from the jury, we all knew the appeals court will need to resolve this case." If I were the jury and/or judge in this case, I ‘d say that posting about sex on the internet is a crime and that Gawker should go to jail, but then again so should Hulk Hogan. Nothing else! If I ever found out that any of my rock-loving buds are seeing sexual images online on accident, let alone seeking them out with the purpose of enjoying them, I would absolutely freak. ![]() The internet is a clean, tidy place for me to group chat with my geology nut friends, play Spider Solitaire, and buy sandals. I can ‘t afford to be changing shirts that often!Īnd honestly, the internet is no place for sex. ![]() I think Gawker should lose because they posted something about sex that made me think about sex, and I don ‘t like thinking about sex! Just thinking about sex makes me so sweaty that I have to change into a different shirt. I think Gawker should lose this case, and it ‘s not because I think Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) is on the moral high ground, or Gawker should be punished for harming the sports entertainer ‘s career. The real issue here, the one that I think a lot of news sources are glossing over here (interesting seeing as how Gawker is a news source, non?!) is that Gawker posted a sex video, which is disgusting, right? I don ‘t need to see a video of anyone having sex with anyone else! Sex is private. And it ‘s not just because I think Hulk Hogan is a washed up, kinda buff, very un-sexy to me, and also I ‘m pretty sure racist dude who fathered a bad poet. Now, I don ‘t know very much about this case, but I do know something: I don ‘t want to watch a video of Hulk Hogan having sex with anyone. Hogan is suing Gawker for $100 million for publishing a video of him having sex with a friend ‘s wife. between Hulk Hogan and the news website Gawker. ![]()
